Grants for Legal Objectives

 

The Law Foundation provides grants for the following objects: (a) legal education and legal research;(b) law reform;(c) assist in funding the Legal Aid Commission as established under the Legal Aid Act;(d) establishment, operation and maintenance of a legal referral service for the residents of the province; (e) establish-
ment, operation and maintenance of law libraries; and, (f) provision of scholarships for studies in matters relevant to law.


Any orgranization or individual can apply by completing an application form with prescribed guidelines, provided the project is law-related and falls within the statutory objects.

 
The following are among the many programs which are sponsored by the Law Foundation:

  • High School Legal Essay Annual Provincial Competition for students. The students' school libraries also receive matching cash prizes for legal research materials and resources;
  • Legal Research Awards for Students of Memorial University. The Law Foundation annually offers up to five awards for best research term paper on one or more legal issues, or topics treated in a legal context, in a senior level course in any discipline at the undergraduate level. An additional award is provided to Queen Elizabeth II Library for legal research materials and resources; and,
  • Scholarships tenable at Canadian Law Schools.
